Circus Academy New York is dedicated to providing world-class circus training and performances. In addition to our regularly scheduled classes, we proudly host workshops led by industry-leading artists across a variety of circus disciplines. Check below for upcoming and past workshops!

Straps, Silks, and Rope with Antoine Boissereau

Antoine Boissereau is a French-born graduate of the National Circus School of Montreal. He has been performing from an early age, from big top tours to intimate cabarets to independent original creations. Credits include: Cirque du Soleil, The 7 Fingers, Circus Monti, Cirque Eloize, Water on Elephants on Broadway.

 

He strives to share his passion for circus and aerial arts as much on stage as in the studio with fellow passionate members of the circus and dance community.

Adv Straps: Spinning and Swinging
8 ppl max

Minimum requirements:​

  • Ability to invert

Workshop Plan:

  • Activation warm up

  • Straps warm up and fundamentals

  • Switches and spins 

  • Fast spins & creative spins 

  • 1 arm swings 

  • Swing progressions and variations â€‹

Int/Adv Rope & Silks Pt 1: Technical Focus 

12 ppl max

Minimum requirements:

  • Comfortable with climbs 

  • Ability to invert 

  • Controlled slow helicopter/ windmill/ wheel down 

Workshop Plan:

  • Activation warm-up 

  • Reinforcement of basics  

  • Dynamic technique + catch & release 

  • Roll-ups and point of support/transition work 

  • Sequence + « bonbon »  movement 

Int/Adv Rope & Silks Pt 2: Artistic Focus 

12 ppl max

Minimum requirements:

  • Comfortable with climbs 

  • Ability to invert 

  • Controlled slow helicopter/ windmill/ wheel down 

Workshop Plan:

  • Activation warm-up 

  • Reinforcement of basics on fabric 

  • Tools for creating original technical movements 

  • Tools for developing artistic identity 

  • Practice: « bonbon » trick + personal approach

Juggling Fundamentals with Book Kennison

Book Kennison has been juggling for 25 years. He’s worked for companies like 7 Fingers, Midnight Circus, and Circus Flora. His students have been accepted to École de cirque de Québec and École nationale de cirque.

 

You don’t have to be an expert to begin finding the ways that juggling can serve you! This workshop will teach a broad base of technique and theory applicable to any juggling pursuit. Appropriate for people who have never juggled, those who can juggle three/four balls with shaky/rusty technique, and everyone in between. Juggling balls will be provided, or you can bring your own.

The Wandering Cascade: Juggling and Movement with Luther Bangert

​In this workshop we will explore several movement directions and modalities while juggling three balls - delivering new ways to understand juggling and movement and adding new life to your juggling practice. This workshop is for anyone who can juggle a three ball cascade (beginner to advanced!) and wants to add expression to their practice and performance.

Creative Sequencing in Juggling with Luther Bangert

Learn techniques to take your tricks and develop them into sequences. Find your own style and voice within the tempo and rhythm of your transitions. This workshop is for intermediate - advanced jugglers who already have a vocabulary of tricks.
